What did you think of...

  • The introduction to the Nervous System activity (i.e. the foot vs the arm reaction game)??

  2. 1) The game was wierd but funny and you learn alot from it. Its a good way to get everybody involved and a fun way to learn :)

    2)I learnt that the central nervous system consists of the spine and the brain. The pripheral system is anything thats leads out from the nervous syatem, alot like the Monash freeway.

  3. i thought it was going to be a weird game at the start but it was a activity about our reactions on squezzing. I found out that our arms react faster than our legs, because our arms are closer to our brains than our legs.
    I also found out that the central nervous system consists of the spine and the brain. The peripheral system is anything that leads out from the nervous system, alot like the Monash freeway.

  4. the expriement was fun, and a great way to learn how fast the nervouse systems works. It gave us the chance to test our own prefiles and put it to your(teacher) theory of...

    The monash freeway(spinal cord) which is connected to the CBD(brain) is a great way to remeber the central nervouse system. Once our hand was squeezed, insider our hand a connection of electric and chemical message was sent all the way up our hand through are spinal cord and to the brain saying "its time to squeeze the other hand." and the messages was sent all way back down through the other arm.

  5. I thought that the experiment was pretty slick ;). Working in teams brought out the competetive nature in us all. Although the other team cheaaaated.. Kidding -shifty eyes-. We learnt that our arm co-ordination was faster than our leg co-ordination.

    The story about the M1 and the CBD made the nervous system sound alot better than it really is. We now that peripheral vision is when we look to the sides instead of the front, thanks to claire ;).

    We also learnt that when our hand wants to squish its fingers, our nerves send chemical and electrical messages/currents to our spine which is apart of our major nervous system, aka the monash freeway which the responds and sends back the message allowing our hand to squish. IN FAST TIMING!

    The messages are sent to our peripheral nervous system which can also be known as all the parts of us that hang off, like our arms and legs.

  6. I thought the game was a pretty fun game :]
    I learnt alot about how the nervous system works.
    The central nervous system consists of the spine and brain!

    I also learnt that the our arms react faster than our legs because they are closer to the brain than our legs are.

  7. The intro to the Nervous System experiment was real cool because it was heaps fun and better than working out of a text book.
    We got to work as a group and socialise with everyone and have a laugh :)

    I learnt that it takes longer for the reaction time of something hitting your foot to get to your central nervous system and then back out to one of the peripheral nervous systems to record the time beacuse the neurons have further to travel than it does something hitting your arm because its closer to the central nervous system so less to travel.
    I also learnt that there are chemical and electrical messages that are sent through the nerves (neurons) in your peripheral nervous system that go up your peripheral nervous systems like a daisy chain :)

  8. The central nevous system activity was fun and interesting because you can see how fast the brain reacts to the squeeze of the hand and then to squeeze the next persons hand.

    I leanrt how the central nevous system works and how the electric signals go through the arm/legs to the spinal cord(M1) then to the brain(CBD) then back through back to the arms/legs.

  9. 1.) i thought that the introduction was a fun and great way to start the topic. it was a good way because we were competing but in a fun way.
    2.) I learned about the peripheral nervous system and the central nervous system. i learned that after being squeezed the chemical and electrical neurons in our nerves sent a message to our spine, which is a part of our central nervous system. the spine then sent a message to our brain which interpreted the information and sent a message to our hand to react.

  10. 1. i thought the introduction to the Nervous System activity was hilarious, it bought out everyones competative side while briefly teaching us about the Nervous System.

    2. I learnt what our Nervous System consists of, what the Peripheral Nervous System is and what it does. Also, i had a good understanding of what neurons, chemical and electrical impulses do within our body. When our hand got squeezed the electric and chemical impulses, that went through our neurons, which is in our nerves, sent a message to our spine which is apart of our central nervous system. After, it sends a message to our brain, which interprets that information and sends a message to our hand to react.

    Thank you for the reviews you had entered. Now for Miss Ghazarian's feedback!

    To Mr. Bun and Miss. Popvic, congratulations on being able to copy each others responses... WORD FOR WORD!! Who has been copying who?? I wonder.

    To most others... you must be really careful with the way you express your thoughts in writing... your responses are difficult to read and had this been an exam, this would have cost you a number of marks. Please make sure that the spelling of all the terms are correct. You will not be allocated any marks for incorrect spelling... please be careful and make sure you proof read. (Now have to practice what i preach... hope i don't have any errors?!?) :s

    Guys please make sure that you use the terminology as much as possible within your responses... avoid the "Monash freeway" at all costs in an exam... this will definitely be frowned upon... it is just used as a metaphor, so that you can visualize the structure of the nervous system.

    If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to post them.

    p.s. It is "peripheral" people! ;)

  13. Okey-Dokey...

    1) I thought the foot vs arm reaction game was fun, yet interesting. It made us think about the why. It was interesting that even if one group said 'Stop' first, the other team still recorded a faster time.

    2)Not only did I learn that shorter people are more likely have faster reaction times, but I found out why! Also I realized that not everything that makes you think is boring. XD

  14. I thought that the introduction to the nervous system was a bit more interesting and different then just reading something out of a text book. You got to see the different reaction times with your hands and feet and why they were so different in reaction times, as well as having a bit a fun.

    I learnt about how the nervous system is made up of your spine and brain and the rest of your nerves in your body are called "peripheral" nerves. I also learnt why the reation time in your feet were longer then the reaction in your hands due to the chemical message having to be sent/recieved from further away. (your feet are at the bottom of the body, head is at the top..obviously =))
    As well as doing some revision of methological concerns and limitations on the experiment.

  16. I learned from the experiment that the central nervous system consists of the spinal cord (monash freeway) and brain (CBD). The peripheral system consists of neurons outwards from the central nervous system that send chemical impulses and messages to our brains that translate into squeezing someone elses hands.

  17. the activity was fun and it gave me a good understanding of how the central nervous system works. i learnt that it takes longer for the message to squeeze takes longer from the foot which seems pretty obvious but i never really thought about it. The experiment was a good introduction

  18. although i wasnt there for the experiment, from the explaination i got i learnt that it takes longer for your foot to move other than your hand because it takes a much longer time for central nervous system to send messages to your foot because it is further away other than your hand which is closer to your brain. If i were there for the experiment i think it would be a fun way to learn about the central nervous system.
